Abuse
Abuse is when one causes harm to another person or thing. Abuse can be experienced at any age, gender, race, ethnicity, income level, education. It can be psychological, physical, and emotional. Abuse can be direct, but often it is disguised.
According to HealthyPlace.com, each year over 1 million people in the US are abused including sexually, physically, or emotionally. Many individuals who have been or are abused typically experience other health problems such as depression, addictions, dissociative disorders, as well as difficulty with relationships.
Some forms of abuse are:
- Neglect
- Bullying
- Assault
- Rape
- Domestic violence
- Child abuse
- Self inflicted injury
Unfortunately, most people experiencing abuse do not get help.
